We were going to see the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute for our three year anniversary

Incidentally, we were on a day trip and the museum was doing construction and I asked Chris, "What do you think they are doing?" Chris, my fiance, told me that they were digging up King Tut's tomb because he vacationed in the Poconos. I believed him for the good portion of the day until he broke the news. (I am very gullible).

FLASH FORWARD TO ART MUSEUM IN PHILLY

Chris invited our families to come along. We made it a family outing. Little did I know what was in store for me. My mom suggested a family picture in front of the art museum. We walked down and, as we are taking pictures, Chris got down on one knee on the steps of the art museum.

SHE SAID YES!

My girlfriend and I had been together a while, and it was no secret we were going to get married. She had already picked out her setting and cut, but the final rock was still a mystery to her. To top that off her parent's who lived in central america already had an engagement party planned, even though there was still NO formal proposal. In speaking with her friends, I had heard she thought i was simply going to hide the ring in the house and she would find it somewhere. This was not romantic and I am not the type of guy that would've allowed that.

So on Friday night, 10/19/07, the night before we left for Central America, I told her to get dressed and we were going to go to dinner, not just any dinner, we were going back to where we had our first date, we had been back since, but it's not where we go all the time, and don't stop reading cause I promise this does not have a cliché ending.

REWIND

Earlier that week I called all of our closet friends, mainly the friends who most likely will be in the wedding party, and told them, "Friday night, we are having a surprise engagement party," and I told them the details.

After our first dinner we danced the night away at a nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino called Passion nightclub, and we go there quite a bit as we are both friends with people who work there and are always given the VIP treatment. But tonight I requested top-shelf VIP treatment.

As we were eating dinner across the way from the club, our friends were filtering into the nightclub into our VIP section, that the club decorated with 4 dozen roses, and heart shaped balloons as well. All the while my girlfriend was thinking where the heck is my ring, she was searching through sushi rolls, she kept getting up to go to the bathroom thinking she would come back and it would be there, and all the while our friends were text messaging me to let me know they were in place.

The dinner came to an end, and she still had no ring, I paid and we got up to leave, and she frisked me looking for the ring. I was prepared for this, I had wrapped the ring in cloth and tucked it in my wallet. She was starting to believe me that i was just going to give her the ring when we got home from dinner as I had told her all along, though she had a hard time believing this, as I am quite a flashy guy.

As we walked back to the car, we passed Passion nightclub where we saw one of friends working, she asked us if we could stop in for a drink, and we of course did.

As we were walking up the stairs to the VIP section, four bottles of Dom Perignon were being brought out behind us with sparklers spraying sparks off them, the club had a spotlight on us as we made our way to our tables where all of our best friends were waiting, and the DJ played the song by Jay-Z and Beyonce "Crazy in Love", I got down one one knee and the ring magically appeared, and as the sparklers were spraying sparks, her eyes began to tear up, mine did, too, and as I slipped the ring on her finger and she pulled me up to give me a kiss and a hug, I saw flashes going off the, the nightclub had a professional photographer capturing the whole moment on film.

It was a magical moment.

And as the waitresses were pouring the Dom Perignon in our glasses, they were shaking, some had tears in there eyes as well, I looked around and the many people in the nightclub were touched by what had just happened, they felt it too.

People even sent bottles over to out table, I had touched so many people that night, But most importantly the woman I love and cherish forever was touched in a way she had never been touched before, that was the first time she had ever had tears of joy.

There's a twist to this story. I proposed to my future husband.

Mike had been trying to see the rock band The Deftones in concert for seven years. Every time he's come close, something's gone wrong--he couldn't get into Canada; tickets were too much; canceled show for unknown reason; etc. Poor guy.

So I emailed the Deftones website contact asking if/when they would be in Canada. He said, "Don't know if we're coming that way." So I got the tickets in the closest place possible: Salt Lake City, Utah. That is a minimum ten-hour drive through mountains for us. But I was willing to do anything to get him to the concert--even if it meant driving ten hours to the concert and back in the two-and-a-half days we had off from work.

Two weeks before the concert, I got notification on my email that they are coming to Canada after all--two hours from my home. I was so happy. So I sent the Utah tickets to a friend that lives there after I made sure I had the Calgary tickets.

Finally...the day came! We headed for Calgary and spent the day shopping for clothes, CDs, etc.—whatever he wanted! Then I took him for an exquisite steak and lobster supper.

After dinner, we headed for the concert. The third to last song, one of Mike's favorite songs was finally played. That's when I asked him to marry me.

I wish I had a picture of his face! It was priceless! He couldn't answer, he just picked me up and gave me the most passionate kiss. When the song ended, and we could hear each other, he said YES!

We are planning our wedding for July of 2009.

I knew I would love him from the first time I saw him!

We both went to a community college in Franklin, Tennessee, in 1999 and we met in Biology class. His mother worked in the front office and my father was an English professor at the college.

After a very long eight year bumpy road, things turned around. Mike had gotten into some trouble with the law and his mother asked my father, a retired lawyer, for some legal advice. A few weeks later I told my parents I had a date with him and you can imagine that they were less than enthused.

However, eight years later they have come to love him just as much as I have, if not more. They realize he was made for me and that we will make each other happy every day for the rest of our lives.

One day we were at our favorite place in town. It is a lookover site that is so beautiful. You can see the entire town from this huge mountain. November 10th 2006, we went by there to look over the mountain. I was upset because my grandmother was in the hospital. After learning that she was okay, we went up to a special place on top of a mountain in our hometown.

The next thing I knew Mike was down on one knee. Of course I said yes and we are getting married exactly one year laterNovember 10, 2008.
